Irene Rainer *1995, Basel/Bozen
In an archaeology-inspired approach, Irene Rainer (she/her) examines historical artifacts, everyday objects, and oral histories from contemporary eyewitnesses. In her video work «Memories Of An Empty Stomach», she shows recordings made by her grandfather, discovered by chance that capture the landscapes of the South Tyrolean Alps, weaving them together with her own film fragments. The focus lies on the search for the significance of food and cooking: two elderly nuns recall their childhood and speak about their relationship with bread, dumplings, and hunger during and after the Second World War. Irene's work addresses the fragility of memory, highlights the importance of storytelling, and opens up a space for reflection.
