Jorge Morocho *1992, Basel
Jorge Morocho (he/him) combines visual languages from pop culture, mass media and everyday aesthetics in his works. Jorge appropriates circulating images such as portraits of George Michael and examines the tensions between the visual culture of specific periods, identification and viewing habits. For him, appropriation is not an ironic gesture, but a form of reframing—a play between proximity and distance. His painting creates an aesthetic of indeterminacy in which criticism and fascination coexist. The images resist quick interpretation and oscillate between ancient beliefs, pop culture and speculative fiction. At Jungkunst, Jorge is showing a new group of works in which he presents paintings in a spacial setting.
