Gilian Cardaci (er/ihm) kommt ursprünglich aus der Werbe-Fotografie und nutzt die dort gelernte cleane und knackige Ästhetik, um einen kritischen Blick auf die Sport- und Freizeitsbranche zu werfen. In seinem an der Jungkunst gezeigten Projekt «Pitch Green» untersucht er das Phänomen des Fussballrasens und dessen perfektionistische Regulierung und Pflege. Eine Selbstverständlichkeit für die meisten Fussballfans, muss der Rasen im Spitzenfussball eine fast schon skurrile Genauigkeit und Homogenität aufweisen, um die von der FIFA festgelegten Standards zu erfüllen. Gilian enthüllt die Technologien und Prozesse, die hinter den Kulissen werkeln und erschafft dabei eine Art liminale und absurde Bildsprache der verborgenen Perfektion. So können die Bilder sowohl als kritischen Einblick in ein Milliardengeschäft, aber auch als visuelles Schwelgen in Tech-Ästhetik gelesen werden.

A given for most football fans, pitches in top-level football must display an almost bizarre level of precision and homogeneity in order to meet FIFA standards. Gilian reveals the technologies and processes that work behind the scenes, creating a liminal and absurd visual language of hidden perfection. The images can thus be read both as a critical insight into a billion-dollar business and as a visual indulgence in tech aesthetics.
