Leah Nehmert *1994, Basel
In her paintings, Leah Nehmert (she/her) wanders through complex worlds of colour and ever-changing inner landscapes. Through stays in the Swiss Alps and the Korean mountains, the Basel-based artist has deepened her relationship with herself, nature, and her Korean roots. Leah uses oil painting to combine emotional and intellectual journeys with broader questions about memory, the passage of time, and change. In a slow, conscious, and contemplative process, she constructs her paintings with recurring subjects. Flashing light sources, pathways, stars, human bodies, trees, flowers, frogs, and dots: motifs that oscillate between recognizability and abstraction, allowing us to stroll through Leah's personal, mysterious, and luminous worlds.
