Swiss-Peruvian artist born in Geneva and based in Bern, Carla Blanca Corminboeuf’s practice explores memory, identity, and cultural transmission through photography, moving image, sound, and installation. Rooted in her experience of Andean culture and traditional Peruvian dance, she investigates how histories and identities are embodied, performed, and transformed across generations. Her work examines the relationship between personal and collective memory, focusing on the ways cultural expressions preserve traces of belonging, resistance, and social histories.
This piece forms part of a series reflecting on fleeting moments in Peruvian celebrations. The castillos (castles) are massive wooden frameworks set off with fireworks. By deconstructing and recomposing these visuals from video screenshots, creating new 2D and 3D structures that reinterpret the original spectacle. By reconstructing fragments of fireworks from video stills, these objects and photo installations transform a momentary spectacle into materiality and new spatial forms.
